It was not long ago that Portage Park was best known by Chicago residents for the massive Sears store that sat at the Six Corners intersection. Today, just one look at the Portage Park guide provides plenty of things to see and do in this wonderful section of Chicago. New businesses are dotting the area along with fresh sidewalks and an updated look that even sports murals along many of the walls. There are a number of annual events that are sprinkled into the daily activities that you can engage in Portage Park.

Chicagoland Canoe Base: This mom-and-pop outfit refurbishes old canoes, selling or renting new ones along with a wide variety or river equipment to make your day even more special.

City Newsstand: If you love newspapers and magazines, then this is your place. Featuring over 60 paper and roughly 6,000 magazines, the City Newsstand offers you the place to catch up on the news and discover new stories all inside their café.

Hagen’s Fish Market: For over 65 years, Chicagoans have found the best in fresh seafood, oysters, salmon, and more that arrives daily. You can even bring in your own catch and it will be smoked for you.

Hats Plus: With 35,000 hats to choose from, you can find what you need in terms of fashionable headgear for all occasions. From Stetson to Borsalino and more, you can find the brand of hats you want at a low, affordable price.

Portage Park: 36 acres of green space that includes a new playground and a variety of canoes for the little ones in honor of the original function of this area, a portage that served the Chicago and Des Plaines Rivers. You can enjoy the outdoor Olympic size pool where famed gold medalist Mark Spitz did his training or do your laps in the indoor pool all year-round.
