Real estate is not a sprint, it is a marathon.  Many people get into the real estate industry because they think that they will be able to make a lot of money in a very short amount of time.  This is not the reality in most cases.

In order to be a successful Realtor or investor, you must think long term.

1. Set Your Business Up Right

Understand your philosophy and your business model.  You do not want to reinvent the wheel.  Model successful investors and Realtors that you admire.  Interview them and find out how and why they are successful.  How did they start?  Would they do anything different if they could start over?  Did they encounter any roadblocks and how did they overcome them?

2. Continually Educate Yourself

How often do you take time to learn new techniques and expand your education in the real estate industry?  Attend classes and seminars outside of your Brokerage functions.  The more you learn, the more you earn.

3. Network

Networking is crucial to expanding your real estate business.  Who are the people in your power team and in your Rolodex?  Do you have an investor that can buy a house that needs a ton of work?  You should attend at least one networking event a week.  Real estate is about people, not houses. Your business will grow exponentially once you figure that out.

4. Priorities

You obviously went into real estate to make money but it is not always about the commission or profit.  Your name and reputation are more important than any short term monetary gains.  You must make sure you always do the right thing even if it takes money out of your pocket, you never know when something will come back to haunt you.

5. Be Creative

Sticking to proven methods of making money in real estate is smart but you do not want to be exactly like every other agent or investor in your arena.  What is your unique selling proposition and what can you offer that no one else can? Innovation will keep you ahead of your competition.

6. Referrals

Referrals is one of the most critical parts to staying in business and one of the cheapest forms of marketing.  Ask past clients that you did an outstanding job for a referral and they will be more than happy to help.

7. Testimonials

Video testimonials can transform your business dramatically.  How many times have you worked with someone and they were ecstatic you were able to help?  Always carry a small pocket camera with you so you can capture these moments.  It will be the best 150 bucks you spend.

8. Find good mentors and role models

You want to find someone that is having the success and lifestyle you want.  They will have solutions and insight for most of your roadblocks.

9. Love your job and laugh

If you do not enjoy real estate, your clients and associates will notice.  Real estate can be very stressful so you need to learn how to laugh and enjoy it.  If you don’t take time to laugh, you will have a meltdown before you know it.

10. Environment

This is the most important step. Who do you surround yourself with?  Do you surround yourself with naysayers or do you surround yourself with go-getters?  Do you eat healthy foods that give you vitality and energy or do eat foods that give you high cholesterol and slow you down?  Your environment will impact your business and more importantly your life.

 In Conclusion

Use the tips above and your business will grow at an exponential rate for a long time to come.  After all, real estate is not a get rich quick scheme but a get rich slow blueprint.
