There are many good homes that have small bedrooms that create a tiny cramped feeling which will make claustrophobic people have nightmares. The good news is that there are ways to make a small bedroom feel big and without having to spend a great deal of money. Simply by making a couple of intelligent choices when it comes to the color, patterns, lighting, and furniture that you select, your bedroom can appear bigger and offer more space that before.

Limit Amount of Furniture

You’ll want to limit the amount of furniture that you put in the bedroom in order to maximize space. A small pair of three drawer dressers can also double as your nightstand on each side of the bed. The fewer items you have taking up the floor, the more space you create in your room.

Expand Closet Space

You can double, if not triple the amount of space in your closet simply by using a few innovative items. Hanging rods, pull-out trays, shelving, and drawers can add considerably to the amount of storage space that you have in your closet which pulls items out of the bedroom itself. In addition, you’ll find it easier to keep your shoes, clothes, jewelry, and other items better organized.

Storage Bed

By selecting a bed with more storage space underneath, you can move many of the items away from your wall and keep them under the bed itself. This is a great way to get more closet space or space in your dresser so that you can make more room in your bedroom.

Go Multi-functional in Kid’s Bedrooms

If you have more than one child in a single room, then space will be a premium. A loft-type bed works well as it can be adjusted for height which allows for more space while adding a desk, drawers, and other needed furniture. The Matrix-style furniture systems are a good place to start as they are solid, sturdy and maximize the amount of space in the room.

Adding Color

Generally speaking, softer hues of color will help make a small bedroom feel big, especially if you do not have a good amount of natural light that flows in through the windows. You want to use light, bright colors if at all possible since dark colors will make the room seem like a cave.  You can also add wallpaper that uses patters that create the illusion of more space in the room.

Ambiance

Additional ways to help make a small bedroom feel big is by adding more light. This means changing from the outdated fixtures and going to track lighting or adding extra can lights can really brighten up the space that you have. Also, get rid of the lamps that take up floor space and go with wall-mounted sources that will really light up a room.
